SIPI FALLS

Sipi falls are three connected waterfalls in the East of Uganda. Eight of us took a weekend trip to hike round the falls, departing Jinja distressingly early on Saturday morning by Matatu, or public bus. Imagine a dilapidated mini bus to seat fourteen people, then imagine it filled with about 20 people, add a great big sign proclaiming Jesus is Lord obsuring the top half of the windscreen, then factor in the dead sheep decorating the dashboard (supposed to be a sheepskin but looked like rather too much of the sheep still attached to me..), the curtain tassles hanging from the rear view mirror and the stereo pumping out Uganda's best and you will have a good idea of the journey.. The falls however were beautiful - below is Sipi 1 from the restaurant where we ate dinner (after a somewhat abortive attempt to order lunch from our guest house we opted to eat out in the evening..)

The rest of the shots are from the hike - really beautiful scenery.

Local boys swimming at Sipi 3.

His Master's Voice. The radio playing, the dog sleeping, and absolutely no one around.

The local laundrette with a view.

Yann practicing his chicken herding skills, to limited effect..

Erin and me, after conquering a very big rock.

The Sipi exploration team, complete with isseud poles - excellent for fighting with or attempting to twirl and then dropping.

About to set off.. j ai une belle tete de con hein....
